Korg’s iKaossilator 2.0 comes to iPad
Korg continues to set the bar high for their iOS apps and with that standard comes a new version of their most popular app to date – the iKaossilator, which is now available for the iPad. The iKaossilator is a virtual instrument that makes intuitive use of an X/Y pad to create sound by tapping and sliding your fingers across it. It’s simple enough that someone with little, if any, musical talent could have fun playing with, but well rounded enough to be used as more than just a toy.
Visually, the app is easy on the eyes and very stimulating as it responds to your touch in a visual fashion as well. Turn the lights out, take a few hits of acid, and you could probably play with the iKaossilator for days.
In terms of audio, the Korg comes with a library of presets that are constructed with 5 components to them. You can access these 5 components individually and play your own grooves / melodies using the sound source of your choice from that preset – record up to 5 segments.
I don’t have too many complaints about this app as Korg has done a great job of listening to their customers. This app was originally for the iPhone only, but enough people have spoken up, Korg’s listened, and now there is a version available for the iPad. The original iOS iKaossilator didn’t have an audio copy and paste function, but enough people complained, Korg listened, and it’s now available in the update. This is a big deal because so many app developers are overlooking this feedback and continually pumping out the same crap that lacks the necessary features we need to actually get some professional use out iOS software.
I would like to see more sounds, but other than that the iKaossilator is a solid app.
